Purpose of the job
The Metrology Engineer is responsible for performing high-precision dimensional inspections and measurements using advanced 3D laser scanning and metrology equipment. The role involves capturing, analyzing, and reporting dimensional data for industrial equipment, structures, baseplates, piping systems, and manufactured components to support quality control, reverse engineering, alignment, and precision machining activities.

Characterization
Involve and participate independently all 3D Tracker equipment’s operations like setup, reading, aligning, trouble shooting, reporting etc. The work will be carried out both in shop and at customer sites.
Result area’s
1. Inspections, Checks & Overhauls
- Perform 3D laser scanning and dimensional surveys using laser trackers, portable CMMs, laser scanners, and related metrology equipment.
- Collect, process, and analyze point cloud data for engineering, quality, and inspection purposes.
- Conduct dimensional inspections of baseplates, machinery foundations, rotating equipment, piping systems, steel structures, and fabricated components.
- Generate detailed inspection reports, alignment reports, deviation maps, and dimensional analysis documentation.
- Support precision machining and alignment projects by providing accurate measurement data.
- Perform geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) evaluations against engineering drawings and specifications.
- Create and manage 3D CAD models from scan data for reverse engineering and as-built documentation.
- Verify flatness, parallelism, straightness, perpendicularity, concentricity, and other critical geometric tolerances.
- Coordinate with project engineers, machinists, quality inspectors, and clients during field and workshop activities.
- Ensure all measurement equipment is calibrated and maintained according to company and manufacturer requirements.
- Follow HSE policies, client procedures, and quality management system requirements
2. Administration & reporting
Responsible for the reporting all finding, operations, processing of each completed 3D laser task to Supervisor.
3. Customer contact
Responsible for the technical feedback about the job status to the Supervisor.
Skills
Education
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Metrology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in industrial metrology, dimensional inspection, or 3D laser scanning.
- Experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, manufacturing, or heavy industry is preferred.
- Certification or training in metrology systems is an advantage.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in 3D laser equipment like (FARO Laser Tracker, FARO Focus Laser Scanner, Leica Laser Tracker).
