A hydropower plant from the 1950s in Bhakhra/India was recently our destination – and an extraordinary project. The bearing point on the rotor of a turbine had to be repaired. Our team was busy with the mechanical processing for more than eight days in order to make the turbine operational again. Over the years, corrosion damage had occurred at the bearing point. Since it was a sleeve bearing supported in oil, a highly accurate ground surface is critical to the operation of the turbine.

During the operation, the first step was to remove the damage by turning. Then the machine was retooled to grind the bearing surface. Using our high-precision grinding equipment, the bearing surface was machined to the required surface finish of Ra 0.6. After acceptance, the machine tool was disassembled and prepared for shipment back to Germany. The customer was able to immediately adapt the new bearing to our manufactured dimensions and reassemble it.
